NVWA plans to publish inspection results for fish processors

The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) plans to publicly disclose inspection results for fish processing companies. This will make food safety assessments accessible to everyone. Assessment based on latest inspection

The NVWA has finalized a list of inspection data. This list reflects the situation as of August 24, 2026. The regulator plans to publish the data on its website.

Inspected companies are divided into three categories. These are ‘compliant,’ ‘areas for improvement identified,’ and ‘enhanced supervision.’ The category is based on the most recent inspection. It indicates the extent to which the company met the requirements.

Companies without a recent inspection receive a separate designation. This applies to companies that have not been inspected in two years. The list therefore identifies them as having ‘no recent data.’

Transparency in the food production chain

Through publication, the NVWA aims to increase transparency in the food production chain. The list provides an overall picture of the inspection findings. The regulator also aims to improve compliance with food safety regulations. In addition, publication should strengthen consumer confidence in government actions.

Disclosure takes place under the Dutch Open Government Act (Wet open overheid). Information published under this law is available to everyone.

Companies may respond

Interested parties have two weeks to submit their views. This period begins when the proposed decision is published. Submissions received after the deadline will not be considered. The same applies to responses submitted through channels other than those specified.

Companies may add comments to their published information. They can do so by emailing [email protected]. The data will be published no earlier than four weeks after the disclosure decision.
