Meat processing companies must adjust the recipes and labels of the meat preparations they sell, so that they comply with the European rules for the use of additives (E-numbers) in meat preparations and meat products. This is the result of a ruling by the Trade and Industry Appeals Tribunal (CBb) that the NVWA has correctly interpreted the European definitions of meat preparations and meat products. The NVWA has agreed with the trade association VNV that their members have until 1 October 2021 to adjust the recipes of their meat preparations to the legal requirements, if they do not already comply with them. After 1 October, the NVWA will continue to supervise additives in meat preparations and take enforcement action in the event of violations.
