New ISO 9001:2026 quality management standard published

After more than a decade, ISO 9001 has a new edition. The standard for quality management systems now reflects an evolving business environment. Certified food companies also have three years to transition. The familiar structure and core principles remain unchanged.

Aligned with business practice

More than one million organizations worldwide use ISO 9001. This makes it the world’s most widely used standard for quality management systems. The standard provides a framework for quality management. This enables organizations to deliver products and services that consistently meet applicable requirements. It also helps them improve performance and customer satisfaction.

ISO 9001:2026 reflects developments in business operations, organizational resilience, and digitalization. The revision also accounts for stakeholder expectations. In addition, the standard is more closely aligned with the latest harmonized ISO structure. According to DNV, the changes are gradual rather than far-reaching. This maintains continuity within existing management systems.

Three-year transition period

Organizations certified to ISO 9001:2015 must transition to the new edition. The transition period has been set internationally at three years.
