New design with an even stronger focus on hygiene for Repak

  • 09 September 2024

Repak, the well-known Dutch manufacturer of thermoforming packaging machines, has further developed its products to meet a new hygiene standard. While these machines have been specifically designed with the dairy industry in mind, they also easily comply with other hygiene standards in the food industry.

“The concept remains simple. Nothing should be left behind, and anything that is needs to be easy to clean,” says Geert Brookman, R&D Manager at Repak. “We’ve now opened up the frame as much as possible, allowing everything to be washed down. Small design tweaks encourage users, even subconsciously, to keep the machine even cleaner.” By meeting the highest hygiene standards, the new design is ready for the future. “The standards can become much stricter before our machines no longer comply,” Brookman concludes.

Visible and hidden adjustments for optimal cleanliness

The adjustments to the machines are both visible and hidden. Where surfaces don’t need to be horizontal, a minimum angle of 5 degrees is applied to allow residue to naturally fall off the machine by gravity. Another visible measure to enhance hygiene are the well-known blue rings at mounting points. Where surfaces require openings, recognizable blue sealing rings made of food-grade silicone are used.

Once the machine is opened, the “under-the-surface” adjustments become clear. Instead of a closed frame, the design now features an open frame. Additionally, the machine can be easily set into maintenance mode via the updated HMI, significantly reducing the risk of incidents during cleaning.
