In the presence of 3 generations Vergeer, today the first pile was laid for the new building for family business Vergeer Holland. The construction takes place at the location of the current distribution centre of Vergeer Holland. "For us, this first pile is a symbol for a big step towards the future of our family business. With this initiative we are preparing our family business for the next generation", says General Director Diederik Vergeer.
After a short speech, the board members Diederik & Dennis Vergeer set the first stone in the presence of various guests. The post was first extensively decorated that same morning by the 4th generation of the Vergeer family under the guidance of a painter. We have existed since 1934 and meanwhile the 3rd generation is at the helm with Dennis and myself. To keep up with all kinds of major trends & developments in society, we decided to proceed to the construction of this building', says Diederik Vergeer.
The construction and the building are subject to strict sustainability standards based on a BREEAM Outstanding (5-star) sustainability certification. The building is expected to be completed in May 2020, after which the further design will take place. The other locations of Vergeer Holland in Reeuwijk, Woerden and Rijping Bodegraven will remain. The current distribution centre will eventually be integrated into the new building and until then will continue to operate entirely from the existing setting. Diederik Vergeer: 'This is how we literally and figuratively build for the next generation. In this way, our development and sustainability go hand in hand. We have therefore given the new construction process the appropriate name Next Generation'.
