Meatable recently achieved a significant milestone by organizing the first legally approved tasting event for cultivated meat in the European Union. This event took place at their new headquarters in Leiden, where invited guests, including Michelin-starred chef Ron Blaauw and Prince Constantijn van Oranje, had the opportunity to sample the company’s cultivated pork sausages. This development marks a major step forward for the cultivated meat sector in Europe.
Meatable employs its patented Opti-OX™ technology to produce a cultivated sausage from a single pig cell in just four days. This process is considerably faster than traditional livestock farming and also has a lower environmental impact. The technology allows for quicker production and reduces the need for large bioreactors, resulting in lower capital expenditures and more efficient use of space.
During the event, Krijn de Nood, founder and CEO of Meatable, shared his excitement about this achievement. He highlighted the hard work and innovation the company has invested over the past five years to develop a product that matches traditional meat in taste, texture, and appearance. Constantijn van Oranje, special envoy of Techleap, added that the Netherlands is at the forefront of cultivated meat development and emphasized Meatable’s potential to reduce the food industry's impact on the environment.
Through these tastings, Meatable gathers crucial feedback for further product optimization ahead of regulatory approval and commercialization. Plans for 2025 include launching their products in the United States, subject to regulatory approvals.
