On April 18th, Greenyard announced its acquisition of the Belgian company Crème de la Crème. This company specializes in the development, production, and sale of gelato and frozen desserts, with a focus on products made exclusively from plant-based ingredients.
The acquisition consolidates over 25 years of experience in the production of dairy-free frozen desserts under one roof. Crème de la Crème is renowned for its scoopable ice cream and ice lollies, which contain no animal products. This move aligns seamlessly with Greenyard's goal to innovate the frozen snack market. The company aims to offer consumers plant-based, tasty, and responsible snacks and desserts.
Francis Kint, CEO of Greenyard, highlighted the synergy between the two companies. "We are pleased to welcome the Crème de la Crème team to Greenyard. This strengthens our capabilities in the production of plant-based ice cream here in Belgium," said Kint. He added that the demand for healthy and delicious plant-based snacks and desserts is expected to continue growing. These products fit well within Greenyard's European logistics chain and will benefit from global access to major retailers.
Rik Zweegers, CEO of Crème de la Crème, is also optimistic about the future. "The company that Ann-Catherine Nulens and I founded will continue to grow within Greenyard," Zweegers stated. He cited the rising demand for plant-based ice cream as a reason for the merger.
The market for frozen snacks is growing, with an expected annual growth rate of 6.2% until 2030. Factors such as increasing lactose intolerance and demand for gluten-free products are driving this growth. This segment also offers attractive margins for producers. With recent acquisitions and product launches, Greenyard is well-positioned to further develop and lead this expanding market.
