Lineage organizes Food Chain Innovation Challenge 2024

  • 03 July 2024

Lineage, the largest provider of temperature-controlled logistics solutions, is once again hosting the Food Chain Innovation Challenge in the Netherlands this year. On November 19, students and startups will gather in Amsterdam to develop solutions against food waste. This global competition aims to address one of the world's most urgent problems.

According to the United Nations' Food Waste Index Report 2024, over one billion tons of food were lost in 2022. This amount of food could feed billions of people, while 783 million people worldwide suffer from undernourishment. Lineage believes that the solution lies in reforming the post-harvest food chain. The goal is to create a more sustainable and efficient chain with less waste.

Greg Lehmkuhl, president and CEO of Lineage, states: “We want to encourage the entire chain to prioritize sustainability and innovate wherever possible. The Food Chain Innovation Challenge invites participants to develop solutions that not only tackle food waste but also promote sustainable development.”

World Tour of the Challenge

In November, the Challenge will also take place in London and San Francisco. The best ideas will be presented to an experienced jury. The winner of each event will receive a cash prize. On December 16, the three winners will compete against each other in the online Super Food Chain Innovation Challenge. The global winner will gain access to an incubator program to help develop their company and effectively scale their solution.

Participants are asked to develop affordable and scalable solutions within four categories: technologies to reduce food waste, new techniques for food preservation, improved food logistics, and tools for data-driven optimization of supply chains.
