Jan Zandbergen Group wants to take the lead in food safety, sustainability and animal welfare. From this point of view, the organization's current promise to support the Better Chicken Commitment also applies. The Better Chicken Commitment (BCC) is a set of leading standards that should lead to higher welfare standards for broilers in the food industry. The commitment of Jan Zandbergen Group consists of supplying chicken products that meet these high welfare criteria and promoting them in the chain.
Jan Zandbergen Group is one of the larger suppliers of imported poultry meat to the European industry and food services. Jan Zandbergen Group selects its suppliers with care. Animal welfare plays a role in this throughout the chain. Jochem Versloot, one of the directors at Jan Zandbergen Group: "One of our core values is taking responsibility, which also means Corporate Social Responsibility, including animal welfare. Most of the chicken products that we supply already meet higher standards than those required by EU legislation. However, not all suppliers are yet able to meet the desired higher standards. With our commitment to support the BCC, we encourage several producers worldwide to meet the standards of Better Chicken Commitment. We will also do our best to assist them in this transition to adapt to the BCC welfare standards".
Consumers are increasingly concerned about where their food comes from and how it was produced. This leads to demand for improved animal welfare and food quality standards. Versloot: "Transparency is the key word here. We believe this is necessary for consumers to trust the food chain. By entering into the Better Chicken Commitment, organizations signal to their customers that they are meeting the increasing expectations in the field of animal welfare, sustainability and food quality". Jan Zandbergen Group will be able to supply (fresh, frozen and cooked) poultry that meets the BCC standards. In this way, the company will enable current and future customers who have made a 100% Better Chicken Commitment to comply by 2026.
