HAK is expanding its range with Appelmoes Vezelrijk. The new variety contains additional plant-based fiber and no added sugar. It responds to growing interest in fiber-rich foods. HAK is also introducing fruit pouches and small applesauce cups. These formats target eating occasions on the go, at school and at work.
One jar of Appelmoes Vezelrijk contains 19 grams of fiber. According to HAK, the product retains the familiar taste of applesauce. People in the Netherlands consume an average of 21 grams of fiber daily. The recommended amount for adults is at least 25 to 30 grams. Motivaction research indicates that almost half of consumers are trying to eat more fiber. The Netherlands Nutrition Centre emphasizes the importance of adequate fiber intake. Fiber supports healthy digestion and helps people feel full.
Applesauce has been a staple in Dutch households for generations. HAK aims to continue developing the category with new varieties. Last year, 47 million jars of applesauce were sold. HAK accounted for 11 million of those jars. “As the market leader, we believe you should always look for ways to further develop the category,” says Commercial Director Frans van Engelen. Appelmoes Vezelrijk comes in a glass jar. The suggested retail price is €2.49.
HAK is also introducing fruit pouches and applesauce cups. These products contain no added sugar either. They do not require refrigeration. The fruit pouches come in three flavors: apple-strawberry, apple-banana and apple-mango. Each applesauce cup contains 90 grams. They come in packs of four or eight. The new formats are part of HAK’s Groen Gemak strategy. The products will be available at Albert Heijn and Jumbo starting this week.
