GroentenFruit Huis and food banks launch collaboration

  • 09 October 2024

Voedselbanken Nederland, GroentenFruit Huis, Groente & Fruitbrigade, and Groentebrigade Manna have signed an agreement to improve access to fresh and healthy food for people living in poverty. The agreement was formalized with a handshake between Tom Hillemans, Vice-Chairman of Voedselbanken Nederland, and Cathy van Beek, Chair of GroentenFruit Huis, officially launching the collaboration.

Making healthy food accessible to all

The organizations involved are focused on increasing the availability and consumption of fresh, varied produce for those who cannot easily access it. Their goal is to bring more companies on board to ensure there is sufficient supply of vegetables and fruit for food bank clients. They also aim to make using these products more appealing by providing practical information on health benefits and preparation methods.

Shared responsibility

Each party in the agreement plays a specific role. GroentenFruit Huis encourages its members to collaborate, making a significant contribution to expanding the supply. Groente & Fruitbrigade and Groentebrigade Manna ensure the smooth connection between traders, growers, and Voedselbanken Nederland. The food banks are responsible for distributing these healthy products to their clients and offering information to encourage healthier choices.

This collaboration aims to establish a sustainable solution within three years, ensuring that donating fresh produce to those in need becomes a standard practice within the fruit and vegetable sector.
