Minister Adriaansens of Economic Affairs and Climate has presented a roadmap and national program for making industry more sustainable on behalf of the Dutch government. The program, called the National Program for Making Industry More Sustainable, aims to reduce the negative impact of industry on the environment and promote clean production in the Netherlands.
The program focuses particularly on the industry clusters in the Netherlands, where the greatest sustainability gains can be made. Key spearheads are investments in energy infrastructure and green energy to connect these clusters. Additional support is also provided to energy-intensive companies outside the clusters, which have significant CO2 emissions.
An important part of the program is the customized approach, challenging the 20 largest industrial emitters to reduce CO2 emissions faster and contribute to a healthy living environment. The cabinet has already signed seven letters of intent with companies that have concrete plans to sharply reduce their CO2 emissions.
Minister Adriaansens emphasized that by 2024 the cabinet wants clarity on the ambitions of companies and wants to sign letters of intent with companies willing to make additional sustainability efforts. Cooperation with provinces and grid operators plays an important role in creating the right preconditions for implementing sustainability plans.
The National Program to Make Industry More Sustainable demonstrates the Netherlands' commitment to playing a leading role in the transition to a sustainable industry and a cleaner living environment.
