Gelderland aims to make food supply greener

  • 09 March 2022

Entrepreneurs in the hospitality, care, catering and retail sectors in Gelderland can take part in the Gelderland of Tomorrow programme with a 50% subsidy. Under expert guidance, they can work for one or two years on offering more food with plant-based proteins and reducing food waste. Participation usually results in higher margins, more insight into their business operations and benefits the environment. Those who register before 1 April 2022 are guaranteed a place.

Entrepreneurs who participate determine their own level of ambition. They start with a quick scan that provides insight into the impact of the food that is currently on offer and which food is wasted when. Then the entrepreneur chooses what he or she wants to work on. The entrepreneur is assisted with knowledge, practical grips and tools to create and measure impact.

Ambition

The ambition of the programme is to make more than 10 million 'green dishes' at home and out, and to reduce food waste by 15 to 25%. This should lead to a CO2 reduction of 30-40%. Separate, tailor-made agreements will be made with the supermarkets. In addition to a more sustainable offer, it is also about the positioning of products, aimed at helping and enticing consumers and thus giving them a helping hand in making sustainable choices.

The programme has been made possible by the Province of Gelderland and Stichting Goeie Grutten and is being carried out by Greendish and partners such as Natuur en Milieu Gelderland, VoedselSurplus, Orbisk, Alliantie Voeding in de Zorg, Questionmark and GroentenFruit Huis.
