Food revolution in the Evoluon with Spacefarming

The Evoluon in Eindhoven will present the exhibition "Spacefarming: the food of tomorrow" from Sept. 24, 2023 through March 23, 2024. This groundbreaking exhibition, created by Next Nature, takes visitors on a journey of discovery into the future of food and also explores the possibilities of growing food in space.

The spectacular exhibition design, consisting of spatial domes (domes), presents surprising ideas and innovations from leading scientists, food technologists, farmers, designers, food startups, philosophers, producers, designers and artists. Visitors are immersed in alternative worlds with unexpected perspectives and opportunities for our food.

Some notable highlights of the exhibition include Margaret, Those Vegan Cowboys' stainless steel cow, which produces grass-fed dairy products without the use of cows. There is also SPACE10's Algae Dome, an impressive four-meter-high bioreactor in which microalgae are grown as a sustainable alternative to meat. Also, the perception of food is turned completely upside down with the art installation Cellular Alchemy by food futurist Chloé Rutzerveld.

In addition to food on Earth, the exhibition also explores the possibilities of food production in space. Space biologist Wieger Wamelink of Wageningen University will grow potatoes on a recreated Martian soil in preparation for future space travel. Visitors can experience how plants grow without gravity in an AR installation and astronaut André Kuipers shares his personal experiences with food in space.

Koert van Mensvoort, director of Next Nature, says, "We are at the beginning of a new food revolution. The ideas we show in this exhibition are just the tip of the innovation mountain. It gives me confidence that by 2050 the world will be able to feed 10 billion people."
