Schouten Europe introduces the "Southern Fried Pops without Chicken." With this fully plant-based product, Schouten is responding to the growing demand for plant-based snacks and the need to reduce meat consumption due to climate change.
According to Daphne Sanders, product developer at Schouten, the Southern Fried flavor was chosen because of its popularity. Other flavor variations are also possible, making the product attractive to business partners.
The pops are made from soy and wheat proteins and flavored with herbs, spices and natural flavors. They are most delicious when prepared in the airfryer, deep fryer or oven. The product is entirely plant-based, high in protein and fiber.
According to Kees van den Heuvel, Trade Marketer at Schouten, consumers are increasingly choosing protein-rich snacks. The growing range of plant-based options in catering establishments plays a stimulating role in this. Research shows that 27% of frequent meat substitute users in the Netherlands regularly eat vegetarian or vegetable snacks.
The chicken substitutes segment is the largest within the global meat substitutes market. According to market research firm Markets and Markets, sales of plant-based chicken substitutes are expected to exceed USD 13 billion by 2025.
Schouten is presenting the Pops without Chicken to customers in the retail, out-of-home sector and food industry worldwide. The product can be eaten as a snack, with hot meals, in salads or in wraps.
