ENOUGH produces non-animal protein in new plant

  • 29 September 2022

ENOUGH will open a production facility in Sas van Gent, Zeeland, from October, adding additional capacity to the protein market. One year after construction of the plant began, the Glasgow-based food technology company (formerly 3F BIO) is celebrating the completion of the construction phase of one of the world's largest protein-producing production sites. The plant will soon produce sustainable non-animal sources of protein. With this scale-up, the company is taking an important step in the process of protein transition.

Cooperation with Gargill

The 15,000-square-metre production site has a capacity to produce 10,000 tonnes per year. Production will start from Q4 2022. The plant is located next to the Cargill plant in Sas van Gent in Zeeland. The location and cooperation with Cargill ensure the most efficient supply of raw materials and support the zero-waste benefits of the product. Plans are to produce 60,000 tonnes by 2027.

Fermentation as a method of growing proteins

ENOUGH grows ABUNDA® mycoprotein by fermenting fungi using renewable raw materials. This creates the most sustainable source of food proteins possible. The impact of switching 1 million tonnes of animal sources to ABUNDA is equivalent to replacing 5 million cows, or more than 1.2 billion chickens, and reducing more than 6 million tonnes of CO2 emissions or planting more than 30 million trees.
