Deposit on cans from 1 April 2023

The first deposit can was handed in on 27 March 2023. This marks an important step towards the official start of the deposit system for cans as of 1 April. Cans with the deposit logo are now pouring in at supermarkets, cinemas, sports clubs and other outlets.

Consumers pay €0.15 deposit for cans bearing the deposit logo. The deposit cans can be handed in at more than 27,000 collection points. At supermarkets and motorway service stations, they get the deposit back. At sports clubs and other collection points, such as cinemas, they donate the deposit to charity. Important for proper collection is that cans are unbroken as much as possible. Otherwise, the collection devices cannot scan the barcode.
