De Heus sells slaughterhouses Van Miert to Clazing

  • 04 March 2021

Royal De Heus has entered into a conditional agreement with Export Slaughterhouse Clazing. The agreement entails that Clazing will acquire the poultry slaughterhouses of Van Miert and Mieki Hunsel from De Heus. As a result of the agreement, De Heus will acquire a minority stake in Clazing. With the above step, slaughter capacity will be safeguarded and a Dutch slaughterhouse combination with a healthy future perspective will be created. The proposed transaction still has to be approved by the competition authority ACM.

To maintain a vital broiler sector it is important that there remains sufficient slaughter capacity in the Netherlands. To contribute to the maintenance of this slaughter capacity, De Heus recently concluded an agreement to acquire the slaughterhouses of Van Miert and Mieki Hunsel.

De Heus has always said that it wants to continue to focus primarily on its core business; animal feed. In Clazing De Heus found the right partner to acquire its interest in the Van Miert slaughterhouses. With this step, two leading poultry slaughterhouses are brought together and a combination with great future prospects is created.

Poultry slaughterhouses Clazing and Van Miert will continue to pursue their own independent course under the joint leadership of the Clazing brothers and Jerry van Miert, looking for opportunities for the two organizations to strengthen each other. Van Miert's locations in Breukelen and Hunsel remain in operation. Employment will be safeguarded. As a minority shareholder in the new combination, De Heus will not have to interfere with the daily management, so that it can focus on its core activities. This also enables the chick planning department of De Heus Voeders to continue the cooperation with other slaughterhouses. In addition, De Heus will continue its efforts to maintain a strong poultry sector.
