On Tuesday 6 October 2020, Danone launched the sale of its remaining 6.61% stake in Yakult, the global leader in probiotics, through an accelerated bookbuilding process. Danone's partnership with Yakult began in 2004. In 2018, Danone sold the majority of its stake, 21.29%.
Following the announcement of the sale, both companies reaffirmed their commitment to long-term strategic collaboration to promote probiotics. Existing commercial partnerships, including joint ventures in India and Vietnam, will therefore continue.
Danone's stake was sold the same day. The transaction resulted in a total gross proceeds of approximately € 470 million. This will further strengthen Danone's balance sheet. Completion of the transaction will take place on Friday 9 October 2020.
