Optimisation through digitisation

  • 07 October 2020

Steenwijk-based Kornelis Caps and Closures (KCC) is energetically working on their ambitious plan to turn their factory into a Smart factory. Hellebrekers Industrial Automation supports KCC in this by implementing the MES software. MES stands for Manufacturing Execution System and is the digital link between the office environment and the production floor. The MES software running at KCC has been developed by Hellebrekers IA under the brand name Visual Link Software (VLS|MES).

KCC has chosen to phase in the implementation of VLS|MES. After phases 1 and 2 (digitisation of almost all the paperwork on the production floor, introduction of all products in the central database and automation of the planning) and phase 3 (the logistical layout of the factory) it is now time for phase 4.

Since VLS|MES clearly added value for KCC during the first three phases, VLS|MES is also used for the completion of the process. This fourth phase concerns the digitisation of all matters relating to production preparation. This means digitisation of raw material management and order picking.

After completion of phase four, almost the entire production process of KCC is digitised. Because all systems are now connected to each other, there is much more insight into planning and stocks, lines can be used more flexibly and a complete track & trace of all raw and auxiliary materials is possible. Work processes are clear to all employees because they are displayed on tablets in a very user-friendly (intuitive) way. This makes work more efficient, which saves time and money. KCC can rightfully call itself a Smart factory.
