Fruit and vegetable trading company Combilo has taken an important step in the fight against food waste. Thanks to a voucher from Samen Tegen Voedselverswilling (Together Against Food Waste), the company is investigating the possibilities of converting greenhouse vegetable waste streams into new raw materials for the food sector.
With the introduction of an advanced processing center on its own site, Combilo aspires to offer a sustainable solution for both their own residual streams and those of their partners in the fruit and vegetable chain. This innovation is a central part of their strategy to minimize food waste.
As a prominent player in the AGF chain, Combilo has already implemented several initiatives, such as selling Class 2 produce and donating surplus produce to the Fruit & Vegetable Brigade and Instockmarket. "Minimizing food waste is central to everything we do," stresses a Combilo spokesperson.
With the creation of Combilo Food Solutions, which focuses on the valorization of residual streams, the company confirms its commitment to reintroducing residual streams into the food chain. "Our goal is clear: to transform residual streams into valuable semi-finished products for the food industry, contributing to a more sustainable future."
Thanks to these initiatives, Combilo is positioning itself as a forerunner in the AGF chain, with the ambition to achieve a significant reduction in food waste, not only within their own company but also with their partners.
