Remember the Industrial Meat & Food Fair, commonly known as IMEFA? We introduced this trade fair for machinery for the entire food industry about 20 years ago. It was our answer to a gap that emerged due to the downsizing and policy changes of trade fairs in the Netherlands. IMEFA had several successful years. We sold the fair, but within 5 years, it was gone. It was heartbreaking for me. The loss wasn't only personal; the exhibitors also felt a void. I still get inquiries from various partners asking if I'd consider relaunching IMEFA. "There's a need for a machinery trade fair in the Netherlands for the food industry in the broadest sense, not just packaging." Until now, I've resisted.
That was until Mikrocentrum approached me. They invited me to brainstorm about the new strategy, target group, and themes for the Food Tech Event 2024 (formerly Food Technology). Food Technology didn’t really appeal to me. It always seemed somewhat off, especially when they merged with Lab Technology. That collaboration attracted an entirely different audience, not 'ours'.
However, Food Tech Event is a different story. This event perfectly aligns with the target audience and themes of the Voedingsindustrie magazine. I fully support it! The trade fair will undoubtedly add value for food producers and suppliers, attracting the right visitors.
I've already registered for a space that I intend to fill with OSV members, conveniently located next to the dining area. And of course, I've secured a generous discount, which will fully benefit the OSV members joining me. Together, we're stronger.
My heart rejoices: my IMEFA is back! Under a new name and in a different era. I'm excited!
