China has recently implemented significant changes to its import regulations for food products, which are directly relevant for Dutch exporters. The General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) has relaxed quarantine requirements for certain products and introduced new HS codes.
Certain animal and plant-based products can now be exported to China without a quarantine import permit. These include preserved meat products, sausage casings, dairy, fish products, and even edible bird’s nests. However, the products must originate from producers registered in the China Import Food Enterprise Registration. This measure applies to countries with market access to China, offering a promising opportunity for Dutch exporters.
In addition to easing import regulations, the GACC has updated HS codes for various products. These include soybeans, coffee beans, wheat, frozen and chilled beef, and frozen chicken meat. These changes may affect the export administration and product classification for Dutch exporters.
Earlier this year, import permit requirements were already lifted for other product groups, such as plant-based fertilizers and animal hides. The continuation of this policy suggests that the Chinese government aims to streamline its trade procedures further. For Dutch businesses, this could provide a competitive advantage in an increasingly challenging export market.
