Spending on services was 22.4 percent down in May from twelve months previously. Consumers spent 6.3 percent more on food, drinks and tobacco than in 2019. Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reported a few weeks ago that the retail sector spent 8.2 percent more in May than in May 2019. This is the largest growth in 14 years. The volume of sales was 5.9 percent higher. Both the food and non-food sectors realised higher turnover. These figures have also been adjusted for the composition of shopping days.
