From 1 January 2023 onwards, supermarkets will start to collect cans themselves. This was announced by the Central Food Trade Office (CBL) on Wednesday 9 March 2022. There will be a deposit of 15 cents on the cans.
Supermarkets are thus taking their social responsibility. They will receive adequate compensation for the processing of the cans, most of which are also bought elsewhere.
As supermarkets cannot permanently accommodate the growth in returnable packaging in their shops, the CBL wishes - together with all stakeholders - to set up a new, nationwide collection system that can also be used to collect other packaging and products in the future. Such a system is necessary in the transition to a circular economy.
