CBL aims to set up a Food Collective with farmers

  • 13 July 2020

Since the government promulgated the cattle feed measure, various groups of farmers have carried out actions at supermarket distribution centres. Various interviews with campaigners have shown that they are very concerned about the consequences of government measures for their business operations. Supermarkets understand the farmers' concerns, but do not play a role in the nitrogen discussion. Farmers are therefore at the wrong address at distribution centres. However, the CBL has entered into discussions with the farmers and has agreed with them to jointly set up a new Food Collective.

Food collective on the future of the food chain

On Friday 10 July 2020, the CBL spoke in a good atmosphere with various activists and listened to their concerns, both by telephone with activists in Zwolle, and with Agractie on a farm in Noord-Holland and with other demonstrating farmers in the CBL office. The CBL believes that every link in the food chain must be able to earn a good living, even if the costs are becoming increasingly high due to government measures and social demands.

The CBL has therefore proposed to enter into dialogue with all chain partners in a Food Collective. In this Food Collective, all chain partners must look together at how the Netherlands can retain a strong and sustainable food sector in the future, both for Dutch customers and for the export market, which accounts for 80% of agricultural production. The Netherlands has an interest in a healthy farm population.
