Boermarke is producing plant-based cheese

  • 21 August 2020

Due to the great demand for plant-based alternatives to cheese, Boermarke from Enschede is building an entirely new production line for plant-based cheeses. In the first quarter of 2021, Boermarke will produce more than 10 tons of plant-based cheese daily. This cheese is indistinguishable from regular cheese in terms of taste, texture, colour and smell.

Product developer Emmy Bekhuis: "After a long period of market research and development, we have now developed various products that meet the rapidly increasing demand for a vegetable alternative to traditional cheese. Not only have we developed substitutes for traditional Dutch cheeses, we have also developed feta and mozzarella style cheeses. And the product development continues on the basis of market demand for substitutes for other cheese varieties".

Rising demand for vegetable cheese

In the coming weeks, the first machines for the production, ripening and processing of vegetable cheese will be installed in the Enschede factory. A spacious set-up ensures that the machines can be scaled up quickly in the event of a rising demand for vegetable cheese from the market. The cheese can be supplied in various forms: from slices and cubes to grated cheese and complete catering blocks. Boermarke can supply a suitable product for both the retail and the industrial market. From fancy own brand to private label.
