Best Star Meat, a key player in the Dutch pork industry and part of Van Loon Group, has announced the closure of its Roosendaal production site as of March 31, 2025. This decision follows a thorough assessment of market conditions and the need to improve operational efficiency. Production and logistics activities will be relocated to other existing locations starting in early 2025, while departments such as Sales and Livestock will move to Van Loon Group’s sites in Son of Best by July 1, 2025.
In the current, highly competitive pork market, an efficient supply chain is crucial for continuity, says Van Loon Group CEO Robert van Ballegooijen. According to Van Ballegooijen, the Roosendaal site has been instrumental in Best Star Meat Pork’s success, but market contraction and competitive pressure now require further optimization of the supply chain and production process. These adjustments are not only essential for maintaining Best Star Meat Pork’s competitive position but also to support continued investment in sustainable practices within the supply chain.
The closure of the Roosendaal site will significantly impact its employees. Best Star Meat Pork is working closely with the Joint Works Council to provide a social support plan that will guide employees through job transitions. The plan includes support such as personal training and career counseling sessions to assist those affected through this transition.
