With the independent quality mark 'Barometer Sustainable Fruit & Vegetables', wholesalers can demonstrate that they are doing business in a more sustainable way. Criteria are sustainable business operations and the percentage of purchases of more sustainable fruit and vegetables. SMK's College of Experts for Agri/Food Vegetable established more ambitious criteria for the revision of the certification scheme.
The minimum percentages of more sustainable fruit and vegetables to be purchased by a wholesaler per year have approximately doubled. This concerns the purchase of fresh and processed potatoes and fruit and vegetables. The new standards are for Gold 25%, Silver 20% and Bronze 15%. This was 12%, 10% and 8% respectively.
This involves efficient and environmentally friendly transport with well-equipped commercial vehicles. A new definition of cars with a cleaner engine has been added. This concerns cars with engines with the classification Euro 5, EEV, Euro 6, or Euro 6 Plus engine, as well as those with a fully electric engine.
The additional decisions on the implementation of the 'periodic employee satisfaction survey' have been included.
An alternative interpretation via ISO 14001 for the environmental policy plan and environmental coordinator at the wholesale trade has been included. Companies with ISO 14001 certification receive exemption from this requirement.
