Albert Heijn is moving towards B Corp certification. Albert Heijn's mission statement is 'Making better food accessible together. For everyone'. B Corp certification fits seamlessly with Albert Heijn's movement towards a healthy, social and sustainable society.
Marit van Egmond, CEO Albert Heijn: "For Albert Heijn, the sustainable road is the only road towards the future. We take steps towards that every day, big and small. We do not do this alone, but together with all our partners. We realise that this time of transition calls for solutions and acceleration. As Albert Heijn, we are always looking for ways to make a positive difference and make an impact. The independent assessment from B Lab, which can lead to B Corp certification, reinforces this.''
Albert Heijn is committed to making the food system more sustainable throughout the chain in a way that touches all five pillars of B Corp certification: governance, environment, employees, customers and community. Among other things, by wasting less food, packaging differently and including more vega(n) and plant-based products in the range. But also, for example, by more sustainable transport, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, better protection of human rights and developing production methods that are better for animals, nature and people. Marit van Egmond explains: "The B Corp framework gives us insights into where we can further improve our social and environmental performance. With these insights, together with everyone in the food chain, we can ensure that our efforts make a positive contribution to leaving the world a better place."
