Customers are seeing more and more products in a bag with a paper clip at Albert Heijn's bread department. The familiar square, plastic bread clips are gradually being replaced by a highly recyclable, paper variant.
Together with Borgesius, one of its regular bakeries, Albert Heijn is making it possible for the first time to use paper bread clips on bread bags that are automatically sealed. After a period of testing, the paper clips are ready: they are sturdy enough for the machine and the sale or best-before date can be printed on them.
More and more paper clip products will be added in the coming months. By summer, all square, plastic clips will have been replaced by paper.
