A Green Revolution: BioBased Circular is Set to Launch!

  • 13 October 2023

In a world increasingly aware of its ecological footprint, the National Growth Fund has given the green light for the launch of the BioBased Circular program for 2024-2026. The mission? To replace oil with plant-based materials in everything from packaging and construction materials to textiles and coatings. The Earth gets a break, as these new materials will no longer be sourced from its crust but from farms, forests, recycling processes, and even byproducts of food cultivation.

However, like any innovation, this one faces challenges. BioBased Circular is committed to overcoming them, with extensive research and "nurseries" brimming with fresh ideas, as well as large-scale production demonstrations. Whereas the focus used to be on linear production chains, we're now transitioning to circular value circles, with full circularity taking center stage. Collaborations among sectors like agrifood, forestry, recycling, and the chemical manufacturing industry are essential, emphasizing a new approach and updated regulations.

And this isn't just beneficial for our planet. With a potential CO2 reduction of 1 to 2 megatons, BioBased Circular also heralds the rise of thriving, green industries set to significantly boost the Dutch economy. It paves the way for export opportunities and international cooperation.
