9 million euros for green transition food sector

  • 28 June 2023

The National Growth Fund is investing 9 million euros in a consortium of three sectors in the North that want to jointly meet the challenges of the green transition. The money from the "Subsidy Scaling Up Sustainable PPP in Vocational Education" will be used by the Centre of Expertise Water Technology (CEW), the Center for Innovative Expertise Water (CIV Water), Green PAC, Bakery Sweets Center (BSC) and Agile Expertise in Learning Organizations (WVLO).

The water technology, chemical and food sectors face major societal challenges in the areas of climate change, environmental pollution and energy transition. Scaling up is necessary to address the growing personnel shortage and promote innovations. Targeted investments will enable the consortium to train more students, workers and job seekers for these sectors.

The consortium, consisting of public and private partners, strengthens the connection between vocational education and business. Public-private partnerships (PPPs) contribute to the education of young people, ensure the employability of employees and support SMEs in innovation. The Center of Expertise Water Technology (CEW) emphasizes the importance of cross-sectoral linkages, focusing on raw materials, energy and circularity.

Regional partners, including governments, business and education, are essential for a successful scale-up process. The three northern provinces played an important role in formulating the theme of the grant application and will remain closely involved in its implementation.

The grant will help scale up Bakery Sweets Center's returnable bread project, in which sugared bread paste from returnable bread is incorporated into new products.
