In 2020, the European Commission will allocate EUR 200.9 million to the financing of promotion activities inside and outside the European Union for agricultural products from the Member States.
The new EU policy aims to help the sector take advantage of the growing and increasingly dynamic global agri-food market and to raise awareness of quality schemes, including organic products. It also aims to provide assistance to producers in the event of market disturbances.
More than half of the funds (€118 million) will be spent in 2020 on campaigns targeting non-EU markets with high growth potential, such as Canada, China, Japan, Korea, Mexico and the United States. The sectors involved are cheese and other dairy products, table olives and olive oil and wine. The selected campaigns are intended to increase the competitiveness and consumption of EU agri-food products, improve visibility and increase market share in the countries concerned.
The campaigns will also have to inform consumers in the EU and the rest of the world about the different EU quality schemes and labels, such as geographical indications or organic products. High safety and quality standards will also be highlighted, together with the diversity and traditional aspects of EU agri-food products.
Finally, there will be an emphasis within the EU on healthy diets and on increasing the consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables in the context of balanced diets.
