RIVM: New edition NEVO online

  • 21 November 2019

The RIVM (National Institute for Public Health and the Environment) recently published a new edition of the Dutch Nutrient Database (NEVO).

NEVO-online 2019 contains data on 2,152 foodstuffs. Since the previous edition (2016), the information in the database of a large number of foodstuffs has been supplemented or revised. The changes and additions relate mainly to the addition or removal of foodstuffs and the updating of the nutrient levels.

A few important changes and additions:

- The fatty acid composition of a number of types of oils and fats has been updated;
- The sodium levels in bread have been updated;
- The product group 'Legumes' has been updated;
- The product group 'Nuts and seeds' has received extra attention;
- The product group 'Preparations' has been completely changed;
- The product group classification has been changed from 23 to 27 groups;
- 141 frequently consumed foods have been added to NEVO.

Since NEVO-online 2016, 181 new foods have been added and 418 foods have been removed. The majority of the disposed foods consist of foods for medical use. The remainder are mainly foods that are no longer on the market.

Use of NEVO online

The composition of foodstuffs can be found in NEVO-online. You can search by NEVO code, name of the food or a food group as a whole.
