Van den Berg Vleesexperts and Westfort join forces

  • 20 October 2026

Westfort intends to acquire a fifty percent stake in Van den Berg Vleesexperts. The investment will build on the companies’ longstanding collaboration. Westfort aims to strengthen its ties with end users through this move. Both family-owned businesses will continue to operate under their own names and retain their individual identities.

The companies announced their plans on October 20. Westfort and Van den Berg have worked together for more than ten years. Van den Berg supplies beef to Westfort from its Dodewaard location. In turn, the meat wholesaler purchases pork from the IJsselstein-based company. The proposed investment will formalize this trading relationship.

Closer ties with the butcher market

Westfort specializes in pork production and processing. The company purchases pigs directly from Dutch pig farmers. Westfort manages the entire production process from its IJsselstein location, from purchasing through freezing. The company also has facilities in Oudewater and Hedel.

Van den Berg processes and sells both beef and pork. The family-owned business serves customers including Dutch butcher shops. Its offering includes the Beef Best and Pork Best concepts.

Westfort has previously invested in strengthening its ties with end users. Examples include its retail packaging facility in Oudewater and its organic production facility in Hedel. The Patron butcher concept is also part of that strategy.

Support for business operations

According to director Patrick van den Berg, Westfort can provide operational support. This would allow his company to focus more closely on customers and products.

According to both companies, the collaboration contributes to continuity, availability, and product range. Van den Berg’s customers will retain their existing points of contact. The press release also states that the company will maintain its current way of working from Dodewaard. The investment remains subject to approval from the relevant authorities.
