Zonvarken, the innovative Dutch concept focusing on animal welfare and minimal impact on nature, is proud to announce a multi-year cooperation with Jumbo Supermarkets. Starting this week, Zonvarken products will be available in over 150 Jumbo stores throughout the Netherlands, as well as online. Processing and packaging of the meat will be provided by the Van Loon Group.
Zonvarken started with a pilot farm in 2019 and has expanded to multiple locations. On Zonvarken farms, the pigs have 24/7 access to the outdoors, live in groups and can root around in the ground. Indoor pens are generously stocked with straw and an innovative manure separation system reduces nitrogen emissions. The pigs are fed circular feed, which helps eliminate food waste and reduces CO2 emissions from the meat.
Jumbo is launching an assortment of 7 different Zonvarken products in 150 stores and online. As Zonvarken grows, Jumbo will expand the assortment. Van Loon Group is responsible for processing the meat and supports the sustainable chain concept of Zonvarken.
Both Zonvarken and Jumbo are pleased with the cooperation. Jumbo is committed to tasty, fresh and more sustainable products from Dutch soil, while Zonvarken contributes to a widely accepted and sustainable pig farming system. The concept of Zonvarken is supported by animal welfare organizations and is certified with 3 stars Beter Leven.
With this partnership with Jumbo and the further development of the concept, Coöperatie Zonvarken wants to offer an alternative for regular pig farms that want to extensify.
