Within the food industry, and certainly in the fruit and vegetable sector, we often see products being packaged using a trayseal or flowpack machine. In both ways of packaging, various information needs to be printed on the film in real time, such as the best-before date, barcode and country of origin. What type of printer is most suitable for this application? We asked Remco Krosenbrink, Sales Engineer at Automator and a long-time player in the packaging sector.
"I generally recommend a thermal transfer printer for the packaging machines mentioned. A thermal transfer printer places information directly onto the film with ease and onto a paper or plastic label with equal ease," Remco answers the question.
Both the traysealer and the flowpacker need to print several times with a relatively short interval. The thermal transfer printer is ideally suited for this. "Depending on the number of packages, the printer can quickly print multiple images on the foil or label with excellent print quality," says Remco Krosenbrink. "A number of major packaging machine suppliers rely on the skills of the Zodiac thermal transfer printer when supplying a printer on their traysealer or flowpacker."
Remco supplies the ICE Zodiac thermal transfer printer with Automator. "This printer has been around for years and has more than proved its worth in terms of reliability, quality and flexibility. In the course of time, the printer has, of course, been further developed and equipped with the latest technical possibilities."
Remco: "I have been told by people in the field that the Zodiac is a great printer to work with. A user-friendly touch screen makes it easy to operate. By using as few sensitive parts in the printer as possible, the downtime for maintenance is minimal. And a fully running production line is something the producer values highly, especially with the often high production speeds in the food industry!"
