The Dutch Waste Fund for Packaging offers companies and social organisations a free collection system to separate plastic packaging, drinks cartons and glass packaging. By doing so, the Waste Fund wants to contribute to a circular economy in which packaging material remains a raw material and is reused as much as possible.
Companies can register at the online counter Afval Goed Geregeld to use the collection system. This year, 10,000 locations have already started separate collection of PD and 10,000 with glass.
Separate collection of commercial packaging waste is an important step towards achieving the recycling targets to achieve a circular economy. The Waste Fund is keen to take the lead in this and recently launched The Plastic Guide to jointly contribute to reduce, reuse, renew and recycle within the plastic packaging chain. The 2050 goal is for all products to be completely fossil-free and circularly packaged, free of microplastics and litter.
Recycling waste is not only good for the environment, but also benefits the climate. Recycling 1 ton of plastic packaging produces 2.5 tons of CO₂ reduction. The Waste Fund therefore hopes that more and more companies and social organisations will sign up to separate. That way, together we can turn waste back into a raw material.
