Van Loon Group starts with Pork at its Best

On 1 October 2020, the new chain concept Pork at its Best was launched. Van Loon Group took the initiative for this innovative chain concept to increase pork quality and make the chain transparent, sustainable and controllable. The roll-out takes place under the direction of Best Star Meat, part of the Van Loon Group. In the meantime, 16 pig farmers have joined Pork at its Best. Chain partners that are part of Porc at its Best are feed suppliers AgruniekRijnvallei and De Heus Voeders, veterinary practices De Varkenspraktijk and AdVee veterinarians and breeding organisations PIC and Topigs Norsvin.

Pork at its Best is based on an integral approach with all links in the chain, based on 3 elements: quality management, sustainability and chain information system. The pig farmer works with fixed genetics, associated feeding plans and has maximum focus on hygiene management. In the chain, adjustments in feed and manure processing can be implemented quickly in order to reduce the CO2 footprint by up to 50%. In addition, all relevant data is made transparent for both the pig farmer and the chain partners.

The pig farmer is proactively supported by the Pig Advisory Team. This team consists of the company veterinarian, feed counsellor, pig farmer and Live Stock coordinator of Best Star Meat. Through maximum cooperation between the chain partners, the pig farmer improves his returns.
