Van Gelder, a leading name in the Dutch fruit and vegetable (AGF) sector, is set to unveil a new plant-based range this spring. The company, known for its daily deliveries of fresh fruits and vegetables to the hospitality industry, hospitals, and government bodies, is now expanding with a selection of plant-based meat and fish alternatives. These products are not just for business clients, but also available to consumers at the Versmarkt and the Experience Center in Ridderkerk.
The range has been developed in response to the growing demand for plant-based alternatives in the healthcare sector. Van Gelder has focused on producing items such as plant-based burgers, meatballs, soup balls, as well as alternatives for lamb, roast beef, and smoked salmon, all made from a blend of vegetables, fermented fava beans, mushrooms, and legumes.
The development of this range is the culmination of one and a half years of research and experimentation with various ingredients. The outcome is a mix that forms a nutritious base for the products. The base includes vegetables, legumes like fava beans, mushrooms, and herbs. Fava beans are beneficial, providing prebiotics, iron, and fibers, contributing to a healthy gut flora and lower land and water usage compared to beef. The range is characterized by its high protein content, low salt levels, and minimal additives. Most of the products are free from soy and gluten.
These new initiatives highlight Van Gelder’s role in the AGF sector, focusing on providing sustainable and plant-based food alternatives.
