Top sectors work on Roadmap Food, Health and Living Environment

  • 18 January 2022

In order to strengthen the health and vitality of the Dutch population, a lot of work needs to be done on strengthening and accelerating prevention. But the question is: how do you bring together the fields of 'food' and 'health' and 'care'? For although the connection seems logical, the reality is quite different. The Top Sectors Horticulture & Starting Materials, Agri & Food and Life Sciences & Health have joined forces to make this happen.

Roadmap Food, Health and Living Environment

The Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport has drawn up five missions for the social theme Health & Care. The central mission states the goal that by 2040 all Dutch people will live at least five years longer in good health and that the health differences between the lowest and highest socio-economic groups will have been reduced by 30%. Good nutrition plays an essential role in this. Therefore, cooperation between the three top sectors is only logical. This has resulted in a Roadmap Food, Health and Living Environment that revolves around four action lines:

1. Knowledge development for healthy food and healthy living environment
2. Healthy Youth / School
3. The Healthy Region
4. Knowledge Platform Food, Health and Living Environment

Healthy food and healthy living environment

Action point 1 focuses on the development of new cross-over programmes and projects aimed at knowledge and innovation and a broad scaling up of results. In 2021, for the first time, the three top sectors issued a joint call for new projects. This led to no fewer than eight cross-over PPP projects being approved. The new projects will work on the development of personalised food products, nutrition to slow down the ageing of the vascular system and dementia, and the use of more green space in housing.

Healthy Youth / School

Through action line 2, we work together to combine (regional) initiatives for the implementation of programmes in the field of healthy food and living.

Healthy Region

Action point 3 is concerned with the large-scale implementation of best practices in the region on the basis of knowledge development.

Knowledge platform

In order to actually work together programmatically, a knowledge platform will be developed through action point 4 that is aimed at (inter)national communication to a broad audience.
