In the 'Beter voor Koe, Natuur en Boer' (Better for Cow, Nature and Farmer) program, in which 300 dairy farmers exclusively supply sustainable milk for Albert Heijn, new milestones have been reached. For example, the program was assessed by Milieu Centraal as Top company logo - the highest achievable score. In addition, the range of dairy products in the supermarket chain has been expanded, as a result of which new dairy farmers have joined.
Ika van de Pas, Director Environment Central: "The logo of the 'Beter voor Koe, Natuur en Boer' (Better for Cow, Nature and Peasant) program has been recognized in our Quality Mark Guide as a Top company logo. A company logo belongs to the top if it meets strict, reliable controls and ambitious requirements in the field of environment, animal welfare or people and work. Milieu Centraal finds it important that companies take their responsibility for a better environment and offer consumers a more sustainable choice".
With the program Royal A-ware and Albert Heijn want to realize a more sustainable and transparent production chain for dairy products. The number of dairy farmers participating in this program has increased by 10%. About 300 farmers now supply milk that is processed into Albert Heijn products with the 'Beter voor Koe, Natuur en Boer' (Better for Cow, Nature and Farmer) logo. For the extra efforts the dairy farmers in the program receive a premium of 5ct per liter on top of the price of pasture milk.
The program 'Beter voor Koe, Natuur en Boer' contributes to Albert Heijn's ambition to make better food accessible to everyone: not only healthier and more varied, but also more sustainable.
