Too Good To Go’s AI stops food waste in supermarkets

  • 12 February 2024

Too Good To Go, the world's largest marketplace for food surplus, has launched the Too Good To Go Platform, an innovative solution in the fight against food waste. This AI-driven platform enables food retailers, from supermarket chains to local stores, to manage and redistribute excess stock intelligently.

Monoprix, which has been collaborating with Too Good To Go since 2017, pioneered the testing of the platform at 250 locations. Isabelle Boudard, Chief CSR Department at Monoprix, emphasizes the new dynamics introduced by the platform in the battle against food waste. According to the European Grocery Retailing Institute, the costs associated with food waste amount to nearly 2% of the net turnover of supermarket chains, nearly equivalent to their margins.

Five modules for streamlined usage

The Too Good To Go Platform integrates five modules into a user-friendly interface, allowing supermarket chains to choose a modular solution to adapt their strategy for managing surplus food. These modules include inventory management, recommendations, intelligent pricing, marketplace, and donations.

Geertje Zeegers, Country Director Netherlands and Belgium at Too Good To Go, explains that the modular approach of the platform centralizes operational activities in the store and leverages technology and AI to bring efficiency to daily routines.

Tech-enabled inventory optimization

The Too Good To Go Platform is globally available and supports plug-and-play implementation. It also offers integration capabilities, allowing retailers to seamlessly connect it to their systems. It operates on the most popular PDAs, such as those from Zebra.

Tim Stoddard, General Manager and SVP EMEA of Zebra Technologies, underscores the importance of independent software vendors like Too Good To Go in solving problems for retail and hospitality businesses. Together, they enable customers to optimize their inventory, enhance the customer experience, and combat food waste with hardware and software solutions that make a positive difference.
