Too Good To Go takes action

During the European Week for Sustainable Development (30 May - 5 June 2019), Too Good To Go, the world's largest app against food waste, will launch a unique campaign. Too Good To Go identifies food waste as the 3rd largest polluter in the world and wants to raise awareness about it. That's why Too Good To Go is going to plant a tree for every 100th saved meal. With this, the social enterprise wants to further neutralize CO2 emissions, but also increase the positive impact on the environment.  

Food waste responsible for 8% of CO2 emissions

Food waste is often approached from an economic perspective - it has an impact on our pockets. But there is much less awareness of the fact that food waste and climate change go hand in hand. Food waste is responsible for 8% of the world's CO2 emissions (Source: FAO, 2015). If food waste were a country, it would be the second largest emitter of CO2 after China and America. 

Neutralising CO2 during European Week for Sustainable Development

Harvesting, processing, transporting and distributing food contributes to a large ecological impact. A saved meal from Too Good To Go prevents an average of 2.5 kilos of CO2 emissions. Between 30 May and 5 June, the European Week for Sustainable Development will take place: a European initiative aimed at highlighting activities, projects and events that stimulate and organise sustainable development. Every day, Too Good To Go brings the impact of food waste to the attention of its community of users and participating entrepreneurs. During this week, Too Good To Go goes one step further by reducing food waste as well as neutralising the impact of CO2. For every 100th meal that is saved during this week, Too Good To Go plants a tree.

Thanks to this initiative they maximize their positive contribution to the environment. Unnecessary CO2 emissions associated with food waste are reduced and trees help neutralize excess CO2 in the atmosphere.
