Lupin, field beans and Nederquinoa contain a lot of protein and fit in with the goal of eating more vegetable protein and less animal protein. The crops are perfectly suited to cultivation in the Netherlands. That is why the province of Gelderland participates in the Green Deal on Protein Crops.
In the deal, the government and over 50 other parties agree to promote the cultivation, processing and consumption of Dutch protein crops. The Green Deal stems from the National Protein Strategy. This strategy is aimed at the cultivation of protein crops for human consumption, the development of alternative proteins for people and animals, more use of insects, use of residual flows, and more consumption of vegetable proteins and less of animal proteins.
The Green Deal on Protein Crops makes use of the knowledge in The Protein Cluster. This is an initiative of the provinces of Gelderland and Overijssel, Foodvalley NL and Oost NL. It is the 1st worldwide platform for ingredient suppliers and food producers.
