Sustainable advancements in animal feed

At their annual congress in The Hague, Nevedi unveiled an important initiative, Sustainable Animal Feed 2030. This project aims to quantify the sustainability efforts in the animal feed industry and set tangible goals for the sector. It's a significant move towards reducing the environmental impact of animal-based supply chains and their products, while enhancing sustainability, circularity, and local sourcing.

Monitoring progress

Nevedi is employing Critical Performance Indicators (CPIs) and a monitoring program to track progress in areas such as climate change, biodiversity, circularity, and the use of regional resources. This transparent approach allows stakeholders to understand and appreciate the sector's contribution to a greener future.

Collaborative efforts

The project, initiated in 2022 in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV), is a testament to the collaborative spirit in tackling sustainability issues. Henk Flipsen, director of Nevedi, highlights the importance of setting realistic, sector-specific goals for 2030 and beyond.

Praise and challenges

While the initiative has garnered praise from many, including Sally Hoffer from LNV, it also faces challenges. A key concern raised during discussions is the effective marketing of products that demonstrate additional sustainability efforts and a lower environmental footprint. Governmental support is deemed essential for both recognizing the achievements of Dutch supply chains and for future endeavors.

Educating through media

Nevedi also launched a video series featuring sustainable practices by animal feed producers, available on their YouTube channel. This series underlines Nevedi’s leadership in promoting sustainable practices in the animal feed industry and offers insights into the innovative approaches of leading producers.

This initiative by Nevedi is a significant step towards a more sustainable future, reflecting a growing awareness and commitment within the industry.
