Skal reviews labels on organic legislation

In the coming period, Skal will carry out unannounced label checks at retail stores. Checks are carried out to see if the labels comply with organic legislation.

Labelling of organic products

European organic and general labelling legislation impose requirements on visible characteristics that appear on a label of an organic product. Skal has developed a bio-checker for organic companies. Using this checker, an organic company can check whether its labelling complies with the legislation.

Label checks at retail stores

Additional inspections are planned at points of sale in the coming period to assess labels. It will be assessed whether the label meets the requirements and whether the organic terms are only used for demonstrably organic products.

Assessment at the office

The Skal inspector visits points of sale of packaged organic products and takes photos. The labels are assessed at the office. The label checks are not announced.
