Research by the Packaging Waste Fund shows that there was a further increase in the percentage of recycled packaging in 2018. Of the 3,120,000 tonnes, 2,478,000 tonnes were recycled. This results in a recycling percentage of 79 percent! This means that the Netherlands has more than met the Dutch target of 70%. And the Netherlands is also far ahead of the EU target of 55%.
"With the high recycling rate, packaging makes an important contribution to the development towards a circular economy. The Netherlands is one of the European leaders and the Dutch consumer deserves a compliment," says Cees de Mol van Otterloo, director of the Waste Fund for Packaging.
