Chemical technology company Avantium gives the green light for the construction of a bioplastic plant in Delfzijl. The construction is made possible by a consortium of Dutch banks, including ING, InvestNL and regional investors. The plant will make bioplastics from industrial sugars (FDCAs - furanic acid). This FDCA is the main building block of the 100% vegetable-based, recyclable plastic PEF. A plastic that has functional advantages over fossil plastics.
With this new factory, the company is contributing to the transition to a circular economy. Agreements have been concluded with renowned parties on both the supply and the sales side, such as Tereos (the world's third largest sugar producer) and with the Dutch drinks bottler Refresco, among others.
